Because performance depends more heavily on the local access network and cross-region path, results can vary across network environments.

Direct routes generally have a clearer resource and cost structure, making them a useful baseline for a first connection. Start with a nearby city, then compare page response, sustained file transfers and in-app connectivity. If the local network becomes noticeably unstable during busy periods, try a relay endpoint in the same region.

Relay

A relay adds a routing node between the route entrance and the target exit. The entrance receives the connection, then sends requests to the target region through a planned path. Choose Cross-Border Routes by Use Case

The goal is not to find one endpoint for every task. First identify the target service region, connection duration and stability requirements.

Everyday Browsing and Research

Standard webpages, document searches, email and message syncing usually do not need a complex topology. Start with a nearby direct city to avoid unnecessary detours. If pages open reliably and images and attachments load continuously, there is no need to keep switching just because route names differ.

When a site requires content from a specific region, switch the exit to the relevant country or region. If a nearby direct route is unstable on the current access network, try a relay in the same region instead of jumping straight to a more distant exit. This preserves the target region while reducing variables.

Streaming

For streaming, check the content region first, then the route label. Account region, platform policies and exit location together determine what is visible, so choose an endpoint marked as supported and aligned with the target content region.
